How to Stay True to Yourself in a World Full of Advice
Feeling overwhelmed by endless advice? Learn how to reconnect with your values, quiet the noise, and create a life and home that feel authentic and intentional.
There has never been more information available to us than there is today.
Before we even get out of bed, we've already consumed opinions about productivity, parenting, nutrition, relationships, politics, business, fashion, and how our homes should look.

Someone is always telling you how to live your life.
The strange part is that the more information we have, the more disconnected many of us feel from ourselves.
Our brains were never designed to process an endless stream of advice every waking hour. It's no surprise that so many people feel mentally exhausted, distracted, and overwhelmed. We spend so much time consuming everyone else's thoughts that we rarely have a chance to hear our own.
The Moment I Realized I Was Losing My Voice
This realization surprised me. I love learning. I'm naturally curious, and I believe there's wisdom to be found everywhere. I still believe that. But somewhere along the way, learning quietly turned into overconsuming. Instead of creating from my own beliefs, I started creating from everyone else's. Every time I sat down to write, film a Reel, or share an idea, another voice would appear in my head.
"You should use this hook."
"This trend is performing well."
"Successful creators do it this way."
I wasn't creating because I felt inspired. I was creating because I felt like I should. And every time I chased what everyone else was doing, it felt... empty. Not because the advice was bad. Because it wasn't mine. That's when I realized I wasn't losing my creativity. I was losing confidence in my own voice.
The Question That Changed Everything
Instead of asking,
"What should I do?"
I started asking,
"What already feels true to me?"
That question changed everything. I started paying attention to the beliefs I already lived every day instead of searching for new ones online. I realized I value balance over perfection. I believe relationships matter more than appearances. I believe our homes should support our lives, not impress strangers. I believe buying intentionally creates more peace than constantly buying more. Those weren't trends. Those were my values.
Once I recognized them, creating content became much simpler. I wasn't trying to sound like someone else anymore. I was simply putting words to the life I was already living.
I Want to Be Fully Alive
One thought has guided me for years.
When I'm old and looking back on my life, I don't want to remember all the times I played it safe because I was tired, busy, or waiting for the perfect moment.
I want memories. I want stories. I want to know I said yes to the things that mattered. Of course there are seasons when rest is exactly what we need. But when fear is the only thing holding us back, I believe the greater regret is usually not trying. I'd rather try something and discover it wasn't for me than spend years wondering what might have happened if I'd been brave enough to begin. That belief has shaped so many of my decisions. Moving to a new country. Starting a business. Becoming a mother. Traveling with youung kids abroad for 4 moths. Building a life from scratch. None of it came with guarantees.
But every experience became part of the life I'm grateful to have today.
Four Ways I Stay Grounded
1. Learn from everyone. Copy no one.
There is wisdom everywhere.
Stay curious.
Read books.
Listen to podcasts.
Follow people who challenge your thinking.
But remember that no one else has lived your life. Advice should inform your decisions, not replace them.
2. Know your values before you need them.
The world will always have another opinion.
Politics will change.
Trends will change.
Algorithms will change.
If you know what matters most to you, you'll spend less time being pulled in every direction.
Your values become your filter.
3. Ask yourself one simple question.
If no one could see this decision...
Would I still make it?
That question has become one of the easiest ways for me to separate what genuinely matters from what simply looks good.
4. Give yourself permission to grow.
Changing your mind isn't weakness.
It's growth.
The goal isn't to defend every opinion you've ever had.
The goal is to keep learning while staying rooted in your values.
Your Home Reflects Your Values
I see this every day through my work as a professional organizer. People often organize because they think they should. They buy products because someone recommended them. They try to recreate someone else's pantry, closet, or perfectly styled home. But the most peaceful homes I've ever worked in all have one thing in common. They reflect the people who actually live there. Not Pinterest. Not Instagram. Not perfection. Just real life. The same is true for the way we live. When our choices reflect our own values instead of everyone else's expectations, life feels lighter. Our homes do too.
Fully Alive Reflection
Before you ask the internet what to do next...
Pause.
Ask yourself:
What do I already know to be true?
Maybe the answer isn't missing.
Maybe it's simply been buried beneath everyone else's voice.
